| Welcome to Thorpe United's Reserve Team The senior reserves achievement to win the Barkston Ash Burton Cup last season was outstanding, and showed the true capability of the squad. It was the first time a Thorpe United team had won the trophy and was a fantastic end to a fairly traumatic season. This season, as reserve team manager, my targets are to bring continued success for the squad, as well as a discipline and structure that will hopefully encourage both experienced and newer members of the squad. The addition of several players coming up through the U16’s will only serve to strengthen Thorpe seniors, for many years to come. Obviously, injuries can take their toll over a season, and no doubt we will have to eventually deal with suspensions, as well as work commitments, but in order to progress, the experience and skill the existing squad members possess, together with the energy and ability the younger lads bring, will help galvanize all the squad players to rise to this seasons’ challenge. Two of the most important attributes that I’m looking for though, whether in training or games will be commitment and enthusiasm. With the League, York FA Junior Cup, League (Reserve) Cup and the Burton Cup to go at, there is plenty opportunity for more success this season. Doug Gibbon – Manager, Thorpe United Reserves |
