Chairman's Report
THORPE UNITED AFC, Thorpe Willoughby Sports Association, Field Lane, Thorpe Willoughby, Selby, North Yorkshire, YO8 9FL

Firstly may I thank all my fellow officers for their work and loyalty over the past season.

Secondly Managers and their assistants that undertake tasks and routine duties that go on in the days leading up to a weekends football, as well as the days following, are very often thankless tasks and duties that the majority of people are blissfully unaware of. You are all a credit to this club and the community it represents.

A special thank you to our sponsors, parents and families who support the club.

Last but not least the players for their commitment and enthusiasm win loose or draw is second to none.

This year has seen changes of personnel both on the committee and football front, which in turn could have been unsettling but the attitudes and ethics of officers, enabled the club to make the right decisions.

The highlights of the season have been the progression of the mini and junior section. Coaches working with the local primary school, promoting the club in a professional manner. The club representing the Selby Lions in their national tournament (winning the Yorkshire section), I am sure we have raised the profile of this tournament both on and of the pitch. Teams acquitting themselves well in all the leagues they play in and the teams that won league and cup trophies.  The number of coaches and referees the club have successfully put through courses in the past twelve months.

The main highlight for the club was to be recognised by the Barkston Ash District FA and awarded a Certificate of Appreciation, only the second time to be awarded to a club in it’s 101year history.

When dealing with people you resign yourself to the fact problems will occur both internally and externally.  Other officers and myself have spent valuable time dealing with issues that have arisen which has taken the time away from focussing on the clubs development.

In my opinion this season has been one of consolidation rather than progression or continuous improvement.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be club Chairman for the past year.
