| Brayton Juniors U7 1 v 0 Thorpe Utd U7 (Red) Thorpe United Reds were taking the small trip to local derby rivals Brayton Juniors in atrocious conditions, on a bitterly cold day. Spirits were high after some impressive performances, even if the score lines did not reflect the effort of recent matches. Thorpe started brightly with penetrating runs from “Man of the Match” Jamie Norton and some sterling tackling from Connor O’Brien to keep Brayton at bay. Frontman Callan Farrell having another strong performance in defence. It was Brayton who took the lead against the run of play from a breakaway attack down the right, with what looked to be a very speculative strike, which scooped into the air before looping over the impressive Alex Kirk, into the far corner to shock the Reds. The Reds continued to push but Oliver Wright was unable to get in the danger area with the conditions and driving rain beginning to take its toll. In the second half it was one way traffic, with Thorpe pushing Brayton back to get the equaliser with wave after wave of attacks. Both Wright and Norton both missing golden opportunities. Farrell and Kirk being pretty much spectators for the second half. O’Brien continued to push the Reds forward and how the score stayed at 1-0 is a question that beggar’s belief, once again the Thorpe Troops gave everything and more, but just could not find the onion bag. Now Thorpe can look forward to Christmas and the second half of the season knowing what is in store on the return fixtures, thanks to all assistance so far this season, to the parents and especially Janine, Tom and Lisa. It’s been a rollercoaster and we wish you all a very merry Christmas. Brayton Juniors U7 0 - 5 Thorpe United U7( Red) This friendly second 6 a side fixture was very much a one sided affair, with the Reds attacking from the off and chances galore coming for Aidan Rhodes, Cameron Crowder and “Man of the Match” Jordan Dawson. The weather turned for the worse soon after kick off, with heavy rain and strong winds making the going very tough for both teams. Thorpe seemed to manage much better with Dawson and Crowder taking there chances with ease to show the first team how its done before half time to take a 2-0 lead. In the second half Thorpe continued to push there advantage home and the defensive trio of Matthew Clarke, Adam Wilson and Jaden Marshall were never in bother, clearing there lines with ease. Chances were coming thick and fast with Thorpe tearing into Brayton time and time again. Crowder and Dawson getting there second goals with great finishing, one particular move involving the whole team with Clarke laying off to Wilson, who then passed a wide ball to Dawson, who produced a mazy run down the wing and squared a pass to Crowder, who finished textbook with one of the moves of the season. Late on, Dawson wrapped up a great individual and team performance with a cool finish from outside the box to take his tally to 7 for the season. Brayton had a late flurry of corners, with one producing a free kick on the edge of the Reds box and the last kick of the game resulting in a shot lashed into the crowded penalty area like a game of pin ball. It was Marshall who reacted brilliantly, pouncing like a cat to snuff out the danger and keep a clean sheet for the Reds. |

| Thorpe Utd U7 (Red) 0 v 4 Brayton Juniors U7 FThorpe United Reds welcomed Brayton to field lane for their return fixture after the Christmas break, and with both teams looking to get a footing early on in this local derby, spectators were expecting an entertaining encounter. Most of the half was battled out in the middle of the pitch with Connor O’Brien and Jamie Norton working hard trying to free the goal machine of recent weeks Oliver Wright, but it was to no avail as Brayton eventually gained the upper hand and pushed Thorpe deeper and deeper into their half. As Brayton pushed it gave Callan Farrell plenty to do at the back and Alex Kirk in goal had to be alert to the chances that came nearing the end of the half. Thorpe then conceded a free kick just inside their own half, the resulting kick was struck sweetly and with the ball evading several possible deflections or blocks it was too little to late as Kirk did not see it till it hit the net. In the second half it was all too much for Thorpe as Brayton attacked again and again with “man of the match” Farrell unable to stop the marauding Brayton attackers. Thorpe bravely fought on with O’Brien and Norton unable to drive the team forward, and Wright having to drop deep. Brayton were well on top in the second half, tackling and battling with more determination than the home side. Farrell and Kirk were very busy and they managed to keep the Brayton attackers at bay on many more occasions than the score suggests, as Brayton added three more well deserved goals to their tally. unfortunately Thorpe seemed out of sorts and not the team of recent weeks, they will just have to put this one down to the Christmas break coming at a bad time as they were improving and developing well before the mid season break. Thorpe United U7 (Red) 6 – 1 Brayton Juniors U7 This friendly six a side fixture was very much a one sided affair with the reds attacking from the off and chances galore coming for Aidan Rhodes, Cameron Crowder and Jordan Dawson. Thorpe were electric in the early stages with some ferocious tackling from the fearsome twosome of “man of the match” Rhodes and Crowder they were inspirational in there determination to turn the first game loss into a dramatic turn around in the second. Benjamin Dilnot was cool and composed in midfield supporting the front three and with Dawson on fire with his jinking runs and movement Brayton simply had no answer. Thorpe scored early on to show they were up for this battle and force Brayton back repeating the same level of commitment that they showed in the December fixture, as Dawson struck his first. Adam Wilson was solid at the back with his no nonsense defending a joy to watch as he was practically a spectator for much of the match as Brayton struggled to get out of their own half. Faced with Dawson, Crowder and Rhodes in this form there is no wonder teams struggle and they simply would not let Brayton get a foothold in the second half. Jaden Marshall was stood untested until the dying minutes when a rare foray into the Thorpe half produced an unstoppable shot that nestled into the far corner, a real shame as Thorpe switched off and conceded a goal after all there earlier efforts. Dawson’s right foot was like a “scud missile” netting five goals and Crowder weighing in with one rounded off a great performance from the whole team as the second string showed what they are capable of. |
