| THORPE UNITED 2 PICKERING TOWN 3 TABLE TOPPERS THWART THORPE'S LATE SHOW It was obvious from the start that this game was going to be a closely fought contest between two well organised sides. The away team struck the first blow pouncing on a loose ball from a corner, chances were plentiful at each end in a pulsating end to end battle. Ryan Mitchell's well executed "Beckham Like" free kick hit the underside of the crossbar after Jake Mallinson was brought down. In the second period against the run of play Pickering got 2 quick breakaway goals. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves Thorpe put some serious pressure on there opponents, finally the breakthrough came Jake sent Joel Langton racing through on goal to pull a goal back. The goal inspired a frantic final 10 minutes which saw Thorpe lay siege in the away teams half. Resulting from a slick exchange of passing Sam Hough hit the second for the home team, but despite constant late pressure a relieved Pickering Town held on. Ryan Mitchell was named Man Of The Match for an unlucky Thorpe team that was more than a match for there opponents! |
| THORPE UNITED 1 WIGGINTON GRASSHOPPERS 4 After soaking up the early pressure the home side took the lead with a 25 yard free kick from Ryan Mitchell, Thorpe continued to press forward with Joel Langton and the lively Mark Pooleman testing the away team’s keeper. Against the run of play Wigginton forced the home keeper into a rare mistake to score at the tightest of angles. The first division side hit Thorpe with 3 more goals in the second period. The score line flattered the away team as they were made to work for their win by an ever improving Thorpe team! Sean Greenwood was man of the match with a never say die performance! |
