| York U15 Minor League Division 1 Ulleskelf U15 0 – 9 Thorpe United U15 Thorpe U15’s ended their league Div 1 campaign with a one side rout away to bottom of the table Uleskelf, winning 0-9. Fresh from their League Cup Final victory on the previous Sunday, Thorpe also had to ensure there were no injuries with the FA Cup Final approaching on Bank Holiday Monday. The lads remained professional and cantered to a result against a brave team who have unfortunately lost all their league games this season. The first came with a Dec Copley shot from a Ryan McEvoy Corner, the second a one on one by Jordon Lodge, with Copley adding a 2nd on 33 mins for 0-3 at HT. Normal Keeper Danny May had a rare run out in midfield to score the 4th, with League cup final hero Tom Littlewood scoring from long range, then his 2nd goal with a sweet volley for 0-6. May got his brace after a Chris Edis through ball for the 7th, then defender Ben Yorke slotted in goal number 8. Littlewood napped his hat trick after a May cross to complete the scoring. Thorpe’s final league position of 3rd will be their lowest for 4 years but the lads have played some great passing football that just needed a little sharper finishing and perhaps a tightening up at the back on occasion. With 2 high quality signings pending, the Boy’s will have a real go in their final season together next year at U16 level. The club awards night is planned for May 17th at TWSA. |

| York Intermediate League U15 League Cup Final Tadcaster Albion U15 2 – 3 Thorpe United U15 A DAY MADE FOR A HERO THORPE U15’s REGAIN LEAGUE CUP AFTER 2 YEAR ABSENCE In a game where both U15’s division 1 rivals Thorpe United and Tadcaster Albion were a credit to themselves, supporters and families, a hero answered his calling and ensured a thoroughly deserved victory for the villagers. After starting the game at a frenetic pace and playing some superb passing football for the first 10 minutes, there looked to be only one winner. However after having totally dominated both league games this season Thorpe had yet to gain a point or a goal against Taddy and the jinx appeared to continue when a well worked cross and double header gave Tad the lead. Thorpe powered back into the game and created wave after wave of attacks but couldn’t break down an extremely well organised defence where a leg, body or foot seem to appear from nowhere to ensure every shot or header was blocked. Striker Lodge saw an excellent header strike a post before a speculative long range effort from Tadd hit the bar and bounced away. The push forward by Thorpe continued until a brilliant through ball by Taddy sliced through the back line and it was neatly tucked away for 2-0 and the cup looked to be nailed in the bag. After HT, Thorpe knew a good start was vital and once again it was one way traffic but Tad held firm and looked to hit Thorpe on the break. A double strke on the bar by McEvoy and Lodge appeared to seal Thorp’s fate along with multiple saves and goal line clearances, and as the clock ran down it was time to test the youngsters character and revert to a 3-3-4 formation and go for all out attack. With Midfielder Brigham injured, sub Murphy stretched the Tad left back and the Thorpe knew time was short. With 6 minutes remaining the breakthrough came after an excellent free kick was headed in by Littlewood and Tad’s defence had finally been breached. Then followed 2 minutes later by a neat finish from striker Copley for 2-2 and Taddy were understandably absolutely shell-shocked. Thorpe would probably have been happy with the draw, extra time then penalties but went for the jugular and up stepped the Cup final hero with midfielder Tom Littlewood sealing a brace and an incredible fight back to head home in the last minute to see Thorpe home. After a pulsating match that was watched by a number of other div 1 managers, Thorpe proved that they will never give up and have a never say die attitude that they hope to continue into next weeks FA Cup Final against Bishopthorpe White Rose on May 5th. |

| York Intermediate League U15 FA Cup Final Bishopthorpe White Rose U15 2 – 0 Thorpe United U15 League Cup winners Thorpe United extend congratulations to 2008 double winners Bishopthorpe White Rose U15's who added the FA Cup to their trophy cabinet after winning the div 1 title last week. The Thorpe management team of Darran Yorke and coach Billy Copley can be justifiably proud of their team who took the fight direct to Bishopthorpe and had the majority of the play and chances for the first 60 of the 80 minutes. However, like all good teams, if you don’t take those chances then you are punished and Bish took their only 2 clear cut chances superbly. Thorpe came out all gun's blazing and could have taken the lead within the first minute when a looping shot just missing the bar. Thorpe were all over Bish like a rash and they looked shell shocked for the first 30 minutes as Thorpe rampaged forwarded using all the tactics available to them, with wingers Leadbeatter and Higgins causing havoc as well as double act strikers Copley and Lodge chasing everything. The backline of Ashmore, Dickinson, Pullan and Ben Yorke marshalled the Bish front men tightly as midfielders McEvoy and Littlewood created and splayed the balls out to the wide men. Bish didn't have a single chance until HT and the game was there for the taking. Thorpe continued to press in the 2nd half but a moment of defensive hesitancy after 60 minutes allowed the Bish striker to turn, pick his spot and plant the ball wide of keeper May and Thorpe had been hit with a classic sucker punch after dominating the first hour. Parents and supporters tried to rally the team as Bish then turned the screw with Thorpe having to chase the game. The first heat of the summer took it’s toll and sub Brigham came on to add his left footed creativity but the Thorpe front men were firing blanks as all attacks were muzzled by the excellent White Rose back 4. By now it was looking desperate and a Bish foray saw the Thorpe back line stretched once again and after a scramble, the ball was poked home and a very unfair scoreline of 2-0 basically killed doff any hope of Thorpe resurrecting a recovery. Heads dropped and although the villagers had given everything, Bish came out top on the day and deserve the plaudits for waiting patiently then picking off Thorpe when they were vulnerable. The U15's awards night is on Sat May 17th with a 4 day tour to Holland following over the weekend of 23-26 May. |
| York U15 Minor League Division 1 Bishopthorpe WR U15 0 – 9 Thorpe United U15 Thorpe United U15’s penultimate div 1 league game saw them warm up for the forthcoming FA Cup Final against the pending championship winners Bishopthorpe White Rose and come away with a thoroughly deserved 0-1 away victory. Despite not being able to field a full strength side, manager Darren Yorke was hoping to lay down a marker for next season’s league campaign after seeing his side not doing themselves justice this year, although they have been successful in reaching both the League and FA Cup Finals. Bish and Thorpe both play bright attractive football and games between them are generally close, tense affairs with only one or two goals making the difference. So it transpired with Dec Copley latching onto a high through ball and brilliantly chipping the keeper to take the lead before half time. After several substitutions at HT, Bish did not want to lose to their closest rivals and threw everything at Thorpe who until last season had not lost against them for 3 years. An old football saying states that a clean sheet is as good as a goal and so it proved and Thorpe soaked up the pressure, held firm and true and took away both points to aim for a 2nd in the table finish. Bishopthorpe will win the title but Thorpe will aim to retake the league Championship next season but first will play them once again on May 5th in the U15’s FA Cup Final at Tockwith AFC.
